day2dayshop case study
day2dayshop, a Jersey based online retailer and part of the Jersey Electricity Company group serves more than 50,000 customers with a large range of electrical accessories and printer consumables. The company was already a successful e-commerce retailer but was looking for cost effective ways to grow the business and at the same time improve service levels. Tony Ronayne, their Business Manager spoke about their decision to outsource their warehousing and fulfilment to PFS and what has made the partnership a success.
What led day2dayshop to consider outsourcing its B2C fulfilment?
day2dayshop was an established online retail business, launched by the Jersey Electricity Company (JEC) in 2006. The business was a logical addition to the extensive JEC retail operation which is a major element of the JEC group portfolio of businesses. Day2dayshop has been operating for three years and has built up a strong business that was looking to further expand over the next 12 months. The business has two key products ranges, printer ink cartridges and vacuum cleaner consumables. They wanted to develop the business beyond the existing range but also improve customer service and in particular the speed of delivery.
What were the criteria day2dayshop looked for when choosing a fulfilment partner?
The company had already experience of using a third party so were very aware of the skills and capabilities they were looking for. The capacity to handle the desired growth, the capability to improve of service levels and the commitment to deliver service for an agreed launch date and to maintain the quality of service day after day. Another key consideration was the ability to provide a UK option for inventory management and delivery solutions. "The customer base we have developed is the perfect target market for a broader range of electrical and home consumable products that we can't distribute from Jersey" said Tony Ronayne, Business Manager at day2dayshop
Why did day2dayshop eventually choose PFS?
Day2dayshop conducted an extensive analysis of the market place and based on a comprehensive list of selection criteria judged PFS as the best fit partner available. "Extensive experience of providing the solution we required combined with a professional approach and "being ahead of the game", were some of the characteristics PFS displayed in delivering the project said Tony.
How does the solution deliver value?
"We have been pleased with the speed at which the operation has settled down" said Tony. "We have already been able to take advantage of revised processes to make the business more efficient and have discussions underway to launch the UK distribution service. We have also plans to integrate other sales channels into PFS, all things we had envisaged at the end of last year when we started the process." Visit day2dayshop website.
